Formed in 2004 and named after the great violist William Primrose, the group’s acclaimed discography includes works by Fauré, Brahms, Elgar, Strauss and Schubert as well as British masterpieces of the 19th and 20th centuries and major commissions from Sir Peter Maxwell Davies amongst others.

The group’s CD of the complete Brahms piano quartets on period pianos was the culmination of years of research into Historically Informed Performance Practice and has been hailed by critics as ‘revelatory’.

Members of the quartet also have distinguished playing careers outside The Primrose Piano Quartet.

Acclaimed as a ‘pianist of extraordinary gifts’ (Gramophone) and ‘immense power’ (The Times), Clare Hammond is recognised for the virtuosity and authority of her performances and won the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Young Artist Award in 2016.

Last year saw her debuts at the BBC Proms, Konzerthaus Berlin and Salle Bourgie in Montreal and return visits to the Wigmore Hall, London’s National Gallery and Raritäten der Klaviermusik in Husum.

Community engagement forms an increasingly important part of Clare’s work. She recently founded the Gloucestershire Piano Trust to support her ongoing work in schools and prisons, which reaches about 3000 school children and 300 prisoners each year.

Internal Victories was co-created with participants at HMP Oakwood and composer Michael Betteridge. It incorporates sounds from participants' experiences of prison which were then modelled using graphic scores and translated into sound at the keyboard. The men wished to show that, while there is a great deal of sadness and reflection in prisons, it can also be a place of resilience, transformation and hope.

London Handel Players

'A World of Inspiration’

Many European Baroque composers were fascinated by music and culture from further afield, and this programme brings together an extraordinary wealth of styles and influences from countries such as Poland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Canary Islands, India and the British Isles!

Established in 2,000 the London Handel Players have thrilled audiences across the world with their performances and recordings. The ensemble has performed at all the leading venues in the UK, Europe and North America. Recent tours have taken them to Northern Ireland, Spain, Turkey, Canada and the USA.

Their highly acclaimed discography includes the Bach sonatas for keyboard and violin, four discs of Handel chamber music, Geminiani's complete op.1 sonatas and a two-disc set of Bach flute sonatas. Future releases include the Vivaldi flute and recorder concertos.

We are delighted that they will be playing at Campden Music along with two concerts at the Wigmore Hall as part of their 25th anniversary celebrations.

Lumas Winds is a dynamic chamber ensemble based in London. Winners of the 71st Royal Over-Seas League Mixed Ensemble Prize in 2023, Lumas are committed ambassadors for wind chamber music and the rich variety of repertoire that it offers. The ensemble are Making Music’s Phillip and Dorothy Green Young Artists and will take up an Aldeburgh residency in March 2024 as Britten Pears Young Artists.

Alongside performing the classics of the repertoire, Lumas enjoy exploring works not currently in the canon but which deserve to be so. This is highlighted in the six hidden gems that will feature on their debut album due for release in early 2024 for Champs Hill Records. The disc brings together repertoire from every decade from 1960 to 2010 and includes three world premiere recordings of music by Sally Beamish, Gavin Higgins and Elizabeth Maconchy.

The Astatine Trio

The award-winning Astatine Trio were formed in 2021 at the Royal College of Music. Mentored by the legendary Alfred Brendel on his invitation, the trio won First Prize at the 2022 Senior Intercollegiate Piano Trio Competition as the youngest entrants, with an average age of 18. In the same year they went on to win First Prizes at both the International Virtuoso & Belcanto Chamber Competition in Italy and the Birmingham International Piano Chamber Music Competition, and they were the youngest finalists at the 2023 Lyon International Chamber Music Competition, where they were awarded the SEAM Prize for contemporary music. The trio were Britten Pears Young Artists for the 2023/24 season and made their debut on BBC Radio 3 'In Tune' in February 2024.

Elena is consistently praised by both critics and audiences, provoking great enthusiasm each time she performs at prestigious festivals and concert halls around the world - including the Edinburgh Festival, Perth Concert Hall, Brahms-Gesellschaft Schleswig-Holstein, Lisztomanias de Chateauroux and Auditorium du Louvre.

The pianist Nelson Freire called her ‘a great revelation’ after attending one of her performances of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No 2.

Born in Berlin into a family of musicians, Elena started playing the piano at the age of six. She is the granddaughter of German baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.

Pelléas Ensemble

The Pelléas Ensemble was formed at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2011. Playing with “verve and polish” (The Times), they won the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Henderson Chamber Ensemble Award in 2018 and, in 2016, they won both the Grand Prize and the Audience Prize in the St Martin-in-the-Fields Chamber Music Competition, and were awarded a place on the prestigious Tillett Trust Young Artists’ Programme.

Their Wigmore Hall debut was praised for its “captivating vitality” and “effortlessness and delicacy”. They have appeared live on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’, and have given numerous recitals in London and around the UK.

Christmas with the Carice Singers

We welcome again the Carice Singers who were so superb last year. The choir goes from strength to strength as one of the most distinctive vocal ensembles in the UK, defined by its unique sound and imaginative choice of repertoire. Founded in 2011, the ensemble began life focusing on Elgar’s part-songs, naming themselves after the composer’s daughter and only child.

Their programme for us this year will be of Christmas music, old and new, culminating in a familiar carol for choir and audience.

Moriarty Winds with Chad Vindin, piano

Founded in September 2015, Moriarty Winds met as postgraduate students at the Royal Academy of Music. Graduates of the Royal Northern College of Music, University of Oxford and University of Bristol, Moriarty Winds frequently perform in concerts and festivals in the London area and beyond.

The ensemble comprises of Matthew Wilsher - clarinet, Joel Roberts - french horn, Anna Kondrashina - flute, Emily Stephens - oboe, Emily Newman - bassoon and Chad Vindin - piano

A programme for Valentine’s Day - Young Lovers

Eleanor and Maya are to perform a programme centred around the theme of love, including songs by Gabriel Fauré, Franz Liszt and Roger Quilter’s 7 Elizabethan Lyrics Op.12.

Eleanor Broomfield is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music where she studied on the Undergraduate and Preparatory Opera courses. She is also a graduate of the Handel House Talent Scheme 2018/19. She sings in opera including at Longborough and gives recitals mainly in London at venues such as The Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace and Cadogan Hall.

Maya Soltan is a Russian pianist and coach who trained at the Moscow State Conservatory, the Nationalist Opera Studio and the Royal Academy of Music. Her recent accomplishments include collaborations with Loughborough Festival Opera, the British Library and Philharmonic Voices.

Elizabeth Bass is one of the leading British harpists of her generation and in 2016 became the first British player to reach the final of the prestigious USA International Harp Competition in Bloomington, Indiana. Since then she has performed with many of this country’s leading orchestras and has given concerts at such places as Vienna’s Musikverein and the Royal Albert Hall. Elizabeth graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2017 and has since embraced the variety of settings that playing the harp can take her to, from BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall to pop sessions at Abbey Road Studios. In the Spring of 2022 Elizabeth was appointed Section Principal Harp of the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Christmas with the Carice Singers

The Carice Singers return to Chipping Campden with an enchanting programme of Christmas carols from Norway and the British Isles, this time directed by fast-rising Norwegian conductor Anette Dean. Prize-winning writer and broadcaster Oliver Soden will read two of T.S. Eliot’s most evocative poems for the festive season.
The Carice Singers is a 16-voice vocal ensemble named after Elgar’s daughter. Described as possessing a “beauty of tone” and “musicality” that “few can match” (Gramophone Magazine), they have quickly developed a reputation for being one of this country’s finest chamber choirs. Since its founding in 2011, the ensemble has performed at many festivals and venues throughout the British Isles and in Germany in addition to making recordings for Naxos and the BBC Music Magazine.

Kammerphilharmonie Europa was founded in 2006 in Cologne, Germany, and engages over 60 of the most talented young musicians from 18 European nations. Its outstanding high artistic level has been confirmed by many concerts and festivals the orchestra has played throughout Europe, as well as by press and critics.

Kammerphilharmonie Europa has, since its inception, been built upon a broad range of professional experience. In the interest of promoting the younger generation, the orchestra aims also to provide promising artists the opportunity for further development in its various sections. Michael Bochmann MBE (violin) was for many years leader of the Bochmann String Quartet and concertmaster of the English String and Symphony Orchestras. He partnered Yehudi Menhuin in Bach’s Double Concerto on an 18 concert tour of the USA and UK and his recording of the “Lark Ascending” by Vaughan Williams is frequently broadcast. In 2015 he was awarded the MBE for services to music and is now director of Orchestra Pro Anima.

Carol Hubel-Allen (viola) was a member of the Pfeiffer String Quartet Stuttgart with whom she toured Europe and the Dehler String Quartet of the Staatskapelle Weimar. She has played with orchestras as far afield as the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Princeton Chamber Orchestra in addition to giving regular solo recitals more locally as part of Duo Karadys.

David Powell (cello) is sub principal cellist with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and has worked with the world’s leading conductors and soloists. He has played with many of the London orchestras and performed at festivals and Midland venues with the Montpelier String Trio, 51 Strings (his harp and cello duo), and Trio Severn.

James gave a stunning solo piano recital here three years ago and returns with his wife, Philippa Harrison, a very fine pianist in her own right.
In addition to their performance work, Philippa and James are keen educationalists, giving masterclasses and promoting music in schools.

In 2015 the internationally acclaimed Duo were invited to attend a winter residency at the Banff Centre where they premiered their new commission Duelogue by Rory Boyle.

While still a student, Raphaela Papadakis made her professional début at Garsington Opera. Since then, she has performed at many venues, here and abroad, including the Royal Opera House, Berlin Staatsoper, and Glyndebourne Festival Opera to name but a few. Since her début as a solo recitalist at Carnegie Hall in 2014, Raphaela has given concerts for the Oxford Lieder Festival, York Early Music, Aldeburgh, and the London Handel Festivals.

A beautiful programme, on a French/Spanish theme will include songs by Clara Schumann, Schubert, Berlioz (from Nuits d’été), Poulenc, Ravel and Bernstein.

The Carice Singers, named after Elgar's daughter, is a 16 voice vocal ensemble directed by George Parris. Described as possessing a "beauty of tone" and "musicality" that "few can match" (Gramophone Magazine), they have quickly developed a reputation for being one of this country's finest chamber choirs. Since its founding in 2011, the ensemble has performed at many festivals and venues throughout the British Isles and in Germany (including Cheltenham Music Festival and the Oxford Lieder Festival), in addition to making recordings for Naxos and the BBC Music Magazine.

Formed out of a collective fascination with the rich and innovative trio repertoire that echoes the artistic development of Francisco Goya (1746 – 1828), Trio Goya concentrate their repertoire on the trios by Haydn and Mozart and Beethoven’s opus 1 set. A fortepiano by Paul McNulty after Anton Walter, Vienna 1795 is the centrepiece of this music. Trio Goya's latest Chandos CD of Beethoven’s Op 1 trios, has received extensive critical acclaim since its release during the autumn of 2018.

Since its formation in 1978, Divertimenti has become widely acclaimed as one of the most exciting British chamber groups of its generation. All five are top ranking players with a wealth of worldwide concert experience between them, as soloists and orchestral principals as well as chamber music players.

Renowned composer Sally Beamish was a founder-member of Divertimenti in 1978 when she still made a living as a viola player. She wrote ‘Divertimenti’ for her old friends and colleagues on the occasion of their 40th Anniversary season in 2018-19

Untune The Sky
The voices that tell the stories of Christmas in word and song

Now May We Singen

From the angels that sing and the cattle that low to the wisdom of the star and musings of a stable mouse, this programme will explore the voices that tell and re-tell the stories of Christmas. Including music by Leighton, McDowall, Schütz, Byrd and Hildegard von Bingen, Untune the Sky presents a programme of word and song for Advent and Christmas.

Untune the Sky is an Oxford-based mixed vocal-instrumental consort, specialising in soloistic ensemble performance. The group's repertoire features music from the 15th to 21st Centuries and they have performed in many venues, including the cathedrals of Oxford, Bristol, and Clifton.

Their name is taken from the last stanza of John Dryden’s poem “A Song for St Cecilia’s Day, 1687” reflecting the fact that the powerful relationships between music and language lie at the heart of their artistic vision.

Since their foundation in 2012, the Magnard Ensemble have built a reputation for delivering both high quality concert performances and dynamic educational projects. The players all follow their own professional performing careers, appearing as soloists, chamber musicians and with orchestras including London Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Southbank Sinfonia, Royal Northern Sinfonia, the BBC orchestras, and major UK opera orchestras.

The Ensemble has given concerts and workshops at festivals and venues across the country including Wigmore Hall, the Forge Camden, National Centre for Early Music, Wells Cathedral School, the Hay, Thaxted and Aberystwyth festivals, as well as Repton School.
